On the Enchanted Highway

Regent, North Dakota

The following sculptures were scattered along a country road filled with
hay and wheat fields. I'll put a report in the written blog.
Absolutely unbelievable!!!!

We camped here one night and took the 32 mile ride around the loop
road. It was filled with scenery like this.

August 1, 2010

The past few days have been tiring. Trying to drive a lot of miles and see the sights we want to see. A lot of driving over steep, winding mountain roads. We drove the Ice Fields Parkway and it took all day to go 130 miles. There we saw more glaciers than we could count. We made the hike up to the Athabascan Glacier for a closer look. On the side of the hill we saw 4 mountain goats that looked like specks. This is a big and beautiful area.
We went through some interesting towns such a Prince George. We hiked up to a forest called the Ancient Forest to look at some huge and very old trees. There we saw an interesting vehicle that is too big and tough to call an RV. Along the way we are taking random pictures of places and things we think are pretty, different, or just interesting. Bear with me as I post these pictures with no real story or report on a particular place. Has someone moved North Carolina?

There is a reason the call this the Ice Fields Highway

This road is in a National Park that runs from Lake Louise to Jasper,
British Columbia.
This is the Rockies at their best.

The trail up on the left.

This is where the Athabascan glacier was in 1948

This picture was taken from beside where the Tioga was parked. This was
a long tough walk up on rough terrain.

The trial about half way up the Athabascan Glacier

Starting back down the hill from the Athabascan glacier

Tioga is the white dot way out from the parking lot, by itself. It was
tough walking going down, it was steep, and rocky.

This one is made by MAN a German company that makes all types of trucks
including Military.

I found this twisted tree interesting

Ancient Forest.

Big Tree

This was the biggest tree in the Ancient Forest. This forest is
protected as it contains many extremely large and centuries old fir
trees. This "walk" included over 300 feet of elevation change. It took
us about an hour to complete. We we all give out after that.
Immediately we started looking for a boon docking spot for the night.

Yellow Head Highway

Up here for some reason they like to name all the highways. That
includes in Alaska. Here we are on the Yellow Head Highway which is
Highway 16.

We saw several of these cars/trucks covered with flowers

This was also in the Prince George area.
