As we drove along we saw a sign for Carl Sandburg's birth place. It was nearing lunch and McDonald's tea time so we turned of at the town of Galesburg, Illinois. It was a nice but old town. The house was in an old neighborhood. The house beside his birth place served as a visitors center. Some guy stuck in the 70's served as our guide. We saw a great 15 minute film about Carl Sandburg's life. There we exhibits and original documents on the walls. One room had some items that belonged to him. We then toured the restored 4 room house where he was born. Those were tough living conditions although they didn't know it at the time. In the back was a small garden where a big rock (picture later) called memory rock was placed with 4 evergreens placed at 4 corners. This was something he wanted and had something profound to say about it but I don't know what it was.
Never did make it to Mickey D's and Deatra is out of Sweet Tea. After another terrible storm and wind we stopped for gas and ate Hursey's Barbecue for lunch. Off we go for the highlight of the trip.
